Judge Sherman graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1995. Prior to that, he received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of South Alabama. He also holds a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Upon graduating from law school, he became the law clerk for Judge Rosemary Chambers, his predecessor on the domestic bench in Mobile. He went on to practice law in Mobile for over 15 years, practicing exclusively in the areas of divorce and family law.

Governor Kay Ivey appointed him Circuit Court Judge assigned to the Domestic Relations Division where he took the bench on January 4, 2018. He currently serves on the Judicial Inquiry Commission and the Alabama Supreme Advisory Committee on the Child Support Guidelines and Enforcement.

Judge Sherman and his wife Kathy, also a lawyer, have four children.
